Winery Overview
Nestled within the picturesque Tudela de Duero, Mauro’s Spanish winery stands as a remarkable testament to the artistry of winemaking. Despite its humble origins in the “Vinos de la Tierra” table wine category, Mauro transcends expectations, defying the ordinary with its exceptional offerings. With a concise yet exquisite selection of red wines that consistently earn 90-plus points in renowned wine guides worldwide, Mauro demonstrates that appellation status alone does not define greatness.
Situated on a historic winemaking estate at the western edge of the Ribera del Duero, Mauro emerged just before the region gained official recognition as a denomination of origin. Though it falls slightly beyond the DO’s official boundaries, this has granted Mauro the freedom to forge its own path. Embracing this freedom, the winery has crafted a distinctive style characterized by limited production, imbuing each wine with a vibrant Spanish character and remarkable aging potential. The creative force behind these exceptional creations are Mariano (who spent the first 30 years of his career making wines for the mythical Vega Sicilia winery) and Eduardo García. Together, they have masterfully produced three Tempranillo-based wines—Mauro, Mauro Vendimia Seleccionada, and Terreus Paraje de Cueva Blanca—that have garnered a devoted following in Spain and beyond, enchanting connoisseurs with their alluring blend of toasty oak notes and luscious ripe fruit nuances.
The region’s continental climate bestows the vineyards a kaleidoscope of temperatures, enduring long, biting winters and scorching, arid summers. This climatic dance, where sun-scorched days surrender to refreshingly cool nights, imparts the grapes with unparalleled intensity and strength. In addition, the mixed soil, enriched with valuable mineral deposits, lends Mauro’s wines their robust and distinctive character.
