Overview of Private Wine Tour: Livorno Shore Excursion
Livorno is one of the major ports of call in Tuscany, and we have designed this absolutely fantastic full-day wine tour for those looking for a luxury shore excursion. We have included two of the best wineries in Tuscany for you- one in romantic Chianti and the other in coastal Northern Maremma so you can taste a range of Sangiovese-based wines and Super Tuscans. You will see some lovely vineyard scenery and enjoy VIP treatment at the prestigious wine estates you visit. From Livorno, you will first head to Montopoli in Val d’Arno, northeast towards the truffle town of San Miniato. You will be welcomed at the Varramista estate, one of the most picturesque in Italy. Varramista is famous in Italy as apart from fine wine, the owners are the Piaggio’s (designers and manufacturers of the legendary Vespa scooter).
After Varramista you will swing back down south about an hour’s drive to Castellina Marittima to the gorgeous Castello del Terriccio estate, where you won’t just have a wine tour, but a wine experience! Your elegant and friendly hosts will take you on a 4X4 of the lush vineyards, and you will have a deliciously prepared home-cooked meal paired with their fine wines. In the evening, after a fabulous and exhilarating day of food, wine, scenery, and superb hospitality, you will be dropped back to your cruise ship or hotel in Livorno. 9 a.m. (or your preferred time), you will be collected in Livorno (port or hotel) by your driver and luxury Mercedes. Next port of call- wine country! You will begin your day in Chianti, Italy’s most famous and wine region. Your tour will begin with a visit of the main living room of the villa and the gardens, then visit the vineyards, historic winery and modern winery, followed by a private tasting of four estate wines including Sterpato, Varramista Chianti, and the much-lauded Frasca. Enjoy!
Sit back and relax as you have an hour drive. On to Beconcini, one of Italy’s great organic wine estates, located near medieval San Miniato. You will undoubtedly be famished and so we have an outstanding home cooked lunch waiting for you in the family home. Expect a convivial feast that depending on the time of year could include roast fish, roast pork, handmade pasta and desserts, beautiful salads – all washed down with estate wines followed by strong Café. Molto buono!
After lunch, tour this beautiful estate with your extremely hospitable hosts and learn all about their winemaking philosophy as well as the region. In the late afternoon, your driver will take you back to your cruise or hotel. Depending on what time you need to be back, we can arrange for some sightseeing, for example, to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa.
