Bodegas Ismael Arroyo stands as a testament to generations of winemaking expertise. This family-run winery, founded in 1979 but with roots tracing back over 400 years, embodies a rich tradition of cultivating exceptional grapes and crafting exquisite wines. Situated in Sotillo de la Ribera, near the medieval city of Burgos, Bodegas Ismael Arroyo holds a revered position as one of the region’s most esteemed wineries and proudly played a significant role in establishing the Denominación de Origen (DO) for Ribera del Duero in 1982.

Rooted in a deep appreciation for simplicity and authenticity, Bodegas Ismael Arroyo concentrates its winemaking efforts on a single grape variety — the revered Tinto del País, also known as Tinto Fino or Tempranillo. With utmost care and precision, the vineyards (25 hectares spread over 12 different plots) are meticulously tended by hand, ensuring the highest quality fruit for each vintage. Harvested typically commencing in early October, these precious grapes thrive in clayey, gravelly soils, imbuing the wines with a distinctive character and complexity.

Bodegas Ismael Arroyo’s flagship creation, Valsotillo, has garnered widespread admiration for its captivating fusion of ripe berry flavors, intricate layers, and an impeccably refined finish. Reflecting their unwavering commitment to excellence, the winery meticulously crafts Valsotillo in various expressions, including the remarkable Crianza, Reserva, and Gran Reserva. Among the finest wines in the Ribera del Duero, Valsotillo consistently dazzles with its exceptional quality and artistry. In addition, the Valsotillo VS (Viñedos Seleccionados; Selected Vines) holds a special place in the winery’s portfolio, crafted from carefully handpicked grapes, embodying the epitome of dedication and craftsmanship.

Stepping into the hallowed halls of Bodegas Ismael Arroyo’s cellar is like entering a world of timeless elegance and reverence for winemaking. The 16th-century cellar stretches for over two-thirds of a kilometer underground.
